Mission Statement:
To provide support services that will enable students with disabilities to gain college, career readiness, and independent living skills while accessing the general education curriculum.
Department Information
The Special Education Department serves almost three thousand students with disabilities in ECISD. A continuum of services is offered to the students including speech therapy, music therapy, physical and occupational therapy, counseling and adaptive P.E. The district employees over 350 professional and paraprofessional staff who work with the students in a variety of ways.
ECISD is the Region 18 fiscal agent for the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf (RDSPD). The Regional Day School serves approximately 50 students ranging in age from birth to 22.
The Special Education Department has several exemplary assessment teams in the areas of assistive technology and autism. Students needing physical, occupational, music and speech therapy receive services on-site. The department supports a graduate program through Texas Woman's University for speech pathologists to acquire their Texas Certification of Clinical Competencies.
